2006 TranSouth Menís Soccer Tournament
Samy Beydouna and Robert Swann each scored goals to lead Bethel College to a 2-0 victory over Mid-Continent Unviersity for their first-ever TranSouth Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, after joining the conference in the summer of 2006.
Malang Jarju found Beydouna in the 40th minute to put the Wildcats on top early. Swann stretched the game to 2-0 in the 44th minute.
Both teams battled through the second half with three shots on goal each. Bethel and Mid-Continent advance to the NAIA Region XI Tournament as the TranSouth Tournament and Regular Season Champions.
Mid-Continent posted an undefeated 8-0-1 record through conference play to win their first-ever TranSouth Regular Season Championship and will host the tournament semifinals and championship as the No. 1 seed. Bethel College follows at 7-1-1 in the conference, while Union University looks for their second-consecutive TSAC Semifinal trip, finishing 6-1-2 in the conference.
Lambuth edges Martin Methodist as the No. 4 seed with their 4-3 victory over the RedHawks on Sept. 17, while Cumberland University slips in at No. 6 at 4-5 in the conference.
Tuesday's first round matches will see a rematch for the battle of the No.4 seed between Lambuth and Martin Methodist, and also a rematch of last year's TranSouth Championship with Cumberland and Union.
