Two-Way Tie Breaker
A. The regular-season head-to-head competition shall be used to break ties. In the event of multiple ties, the ties for the higher seed shall be broken first.
B. Compare records against the highest seeded remaining teams (considered one at a time in descending order) ..i.e. vs. #1, #2, #3,#4 etc. If, when attempting to break the tie by this method, there is another group of tied teams, consider the records against those tied teams as a collective group.
C. A coin flip will be used to determine the higher seed. This coin flip will be conducted by the Commissioner (or his appointee) in the presence of two witnesses. If the coaches involved are not among the witnesses, they will be on a conference phone call while the toss is taking place.
After the higher seed(s) of the original “tied group” is/are determined, they are separated from the original “tied group” (i.e. they are seeded and OUT of the equation) and the next higher seed(s) are determined by the remaining tied teams returning to A for their tie-breaker. If there are two remaining tied teams, they would go to the Two Team Tiebreaker policy. If there are three or more remaining tied teams, they would form another “tied group” of their own and go back to A for the Multiple Team Tiebreaker. If A (head to head)fails to break the tie, go to step B
B. The next step in breaking the tie for all or part of the “original tied group” is: Compare records against the highest seeded remaining teams (considered one at a time in descending order) i.e. #1, #2, #3,#4 etc…If, when attempting to break the tie by this method, there is another group of tied teams, consider the records against those tied teams as a collective group.
