HENDERSON, Tenn. - Nicole O'Donnell of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College and Laura Pla of Union (Tenn.)

University have been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference's women's soccer offensive and defensive players of the week respectively for the week ending Sept. 21, 2008. This is the second straight week that bothplayers have received the honor.

O'Donnell, a freshman forward from Manitoba, Canada, scored a dramatic game-winning goal in MMC's 1-0 win over NAIA No. 4 Lindsey-Wilson (Ky.) College.  With 18 seconds left in regulation, she put the ball into the back of the net from 40 yards out. Earlier in the week, O'Donnell scored a goal and assisted on two others in the Redhawks' 7-0 win over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University.

Martin Methodist, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, is 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

Pla, a junior goalkeeper from Nashville, Tenn., helped keep Union close in its matches against NCAA Division II Delta State (Miss.) University and Lyon (Ark.) College stopping a total of 16 shots while allowing just three goals.  The Lady Bulldogs lost to Delta State in overtime, 1-0, and fell to Lyon by the score of 2-1.

Union is 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
