HENDERSON, Tenn. - Philisha Lewis of Bethel (Tenn.) College and Gabriela DeMelo of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College have been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference's women's soccer offensive and defensive players of the week respectively for the week ending Oct. 12, 2008.

Lewis, a senior midfielder from Jamaica, posted eight points in a pair of conference matches during the week.  In a 6-0 win over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University, Lewis scored two goals and assisted on two others.  She tacked on another goal in a 2-0 win over Union (Tenn.) University in a match that moved the Lady Wildcats into third place in the TranSouth Conference.  Bethel is 4-5-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.

DeMelo, a freshman defender from Sao Paolo, Brazil, helped lead the NAIA No. 4 RedHawks to a 5-0 shutout of Robert Morris (Ill.) College.  DeMelo and the Martin Methodist defense limited RMC to only two shots.  Martin Methodist is 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
