HENDERSON, Tenn. - Anja Klotzle of Lyon (Ark.) College and Julia Bazi of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College have been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference's women's soccer offensive and defensive players of the week respectively for the week ending Oct. 19, 2008.
Klotzle, a freshman forward from Altadena, Calif., helped lead the
Pipers to a 2-0 week on the strength of four goals and two assists. She
recorded a hat trick in a 10-0 win over Crichton (Tenn.) College and
later scored another goal and assisted on two others in a 5-0 win over
Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University. The Pipers are 9-3-1 overall and
4-1 in conference play.
Bazi, a senior defender from Sydney, Australia, helped the RedHawks to a pair of shutouts as MMC stayed unbeaten in conference play. In wins over Union (Tenn.) University and Lambuth (Tenn.) University, Bazi and the RedHawk defense allowed a total of only six shots and four shots on goal. Martin Methodist, which is ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, is 11-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
