JACKSON, Tenn. - Cumberland (Tenn.) University's Matt Greener and Shawn Schaefer have been named the TranSouth Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the week ending March 28, 2010.
 

This is the second straight week the pair has swept the honor. This is Schaefer's fourth conference honor and Greener's third conference honor on the season. Schaefer was also the NAIA Pitcher of the Week last week.

 
Greener, a 5-foot-10 senior from Jupiter, Fla., helped No. 19 Cumberland to a 4-1 week while extending his hitting streak to 19 games. The Bulldogs defeated No. 8 Campbellsville (Ky.) 7-1 and Georgetown (Ky.) 11-9, before taking two-of-three in the TranSouth opening weekend at (RV) Union (Tenn.). Greener hit .571 on the week, going 12-21 in the five games. He recorded at least one hit in all five games, including three games with at least three hits. Greener posted six runs, three doubles, one triple, three home runs and 11 RBI. He also was 1-for-1 in stolen bases and tallied a 1.238 slugging percentage. For the season Greener is hitting .482 with 13 doubles, 12 home runs, 47 RBIs and 33 runs scored in 31 contests. He ranks in the top-15 nationally in average, doubles, hits (53) and home runs. Cumberland is now 25-6 on the season and 2-1 in the TranSouth.
 
Schaefer, a 5-foot-11 left hander from Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, posted a complete game shutout on the week with a 2-0 victory at (RV) Union. In the nine inning win, he scattered seven hits while striking out 11 hitters and walking just two. Schaefer tossed his fifth straight complete game. He lowered his ERA to 0.84, which ranks fifth nationally, and has allowed just 24 hits in 42.2 innings of work this season with 43 strikeouts. Cumberland is now 25-6 on the season and 2-1 in the TranSouth.
 

After the opening weekend of play, the teams are all either 2-1 or 1-2 after no series sweeps over the weekend. Cumberland, Bethel (Tenn.), Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) and Lyon (Ark.) are all 2-1, while Union, Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.), Martin Methodist (Tenn.) and Mid-Continent are all 1-2 in league play.
