Lyon College has suspended indefinitely its varsity cross-country program. The moratorium on both the men's and women's cross-country programs is effective in fall 2010.

College officials cited several factors for the decision to suspend varsity cross country, including the declining number of student athletes who participate in the program and budget constraints. The cross-country scholarships of any returning students will be honored, officials said.

Lyon is calling the suspension a moratorium because it will re-evaluate the situation annually and could decide to reinstate the program in the future.
