HENDERSON, Tenn. - Thirty-five volleyball players from eight teams have been honored as 2011 TranSouth Conference Scholar Athletes as announced by the league office on Sunday before the beginning of the conference championships.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in order to receive the award.

Mid-Continent (Ky.) University led the way with seven athletes receiving the honor.  Bethel (Tenn.) University and Union (Tenn.) University were next with six while Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University had five.  Cumberland (Tenn.) University and Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University each had four.  Lyon (Ark.) College placed two on the list while Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College had one player honored.

The conference championships begin on Monday at Martin Methodist in Pulaski, Tenn.
