
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Shumpert of FHU Named Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Natalie Shumpert of Freed-Hardeman University is the TranSouth Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, January 15, 2012.
Shumpert, a five-foot-four junior guard from Paducah, Ky., led her No. 3 Lions to a 66-54 win over No. 2 Union on Saturday with a career-high 32 points. Shumpert scored 20 of her points in the first half, which were 20 of her teams 26 first half points.
Shumpert
hit 10-of-18 from the field, 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and hit all eight of
her free throw attempts. She added three rebounds and a steal to her totals.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: McCrory (MMC) Named Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Ree McCrory of Martin Methodist College is the TranSouth Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, January 15, 2012. This is the third time this season for McCrory to be named the player of the week.
McCrory, a six-foot-one senior guard from Columbus, Ga., led the No. 9 RedHawks to a pair of conference wins by averaging 32 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and three steals per game. The 2011 All-TranSouth selection also shot 65% (22-34) from the field, 61% (11-18) from three-point range, and 75% (9-12) from the foul line.
In the RedHawks 88-59 win over Mid-Continent he scored 33 points and followed up with 31 points in MMC's 78-58 win at Lyon College. McCrory hasn't scored less than 25 points in any game in 2012.
