Tenn. - The TranSouth Conference's Player of the Week awards for the week
ending January 22, 2012, have been released for men's and women's basketball.
WOMEN'S
BASKETBALL: Roney of Bethel Named Player of the Week
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - Jana Roney of Bethel University is the TranSouth Athletic Conference
Women's Basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, January 22,
2012.
Roney,
a five-foot-ten forward from Union City, Tenn., averaged a double-double for
the Wildcats who were 2-1 on the week. Roney averaged 23.3 points, 12 rebounds,
and two assists per game on the week. Her top performance was a 28 point and 13
rebound effort in Bethel's win over Lyon College. Against the Scots Roney was
10-for-17 from the field and hit 8-of-10 from the foul line. Roney scored at
least 20 points and 11 rebounds in all three games during the week.
For
the week Roney hit 25-of-43 (58%) from the field and hit 19-of-24 (79%) from
the foul line.
MEN'S
BASKETBALL: Bethel's Hardy Selected Player of the Week
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - Caleb Hardy of Bethel University is the TranSouth Athletic Conference
Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, January 22,
2012.
Hardy,
a six-foot-five sophomore forward from Cunningham, Ky., averaged a double-double
for the week and helped lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 record. He produced two
double-doubles during the week with his best outing coming in a 76-66 win over
Cumberland University. Hardy scored 21 and grabbed 13 rebounds in the win over
the Bulldogs. In all three games he hit critical free throws in the closing
minutes to help secure the wins.
For
the week he averaged 18.3 points, 10 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per
game.
