NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The TranSouth Athletic Conference announced its 2012 men's basketball postseason awards Monday, highlighted by co-Players of the Year being announced. James Justice, the 2011 TranSouth Player of the Year, from Martin Methodist College and Kyle Teichmann of Freed-Hardeman University share the award in 2012.

Chandler Mack of Freed-Hardeman was selected as the 2012 TranSouth Freshman of the Year while Chris Ferguson of Mid-Continent University was named the 2012 TranSouth Defender of the Year, CJ Blount of Lyon College is the 2012 TranSouth Newcomer of the Year, and Andy Sharpe of Martin Methodist is the 2012 TranSouth Coach of the Year.

First-team and second-team All-TranSouth honorees, All-Freshman team, along with the player, defender, coach and freshman of the year, were chosen by the league's eight coaches.


Justice, a five-foot-ten senior guard from Craigmont High School in Memphis, Tenn., transferred to Martin Methodist from Southwest Tennessee Community College prior to his junior season. Justice is averaging 17.8 points 4.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and three steals per game.

Teichmann, a six-foot-six forward from Brentwood, Tenn., averaged 21.35 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 55% from the field.

Ferguson, a six-foot-nine forward from Oakland, Calif., is averaging 14 points, 2.5 blocks, one steal, and 11 rebounds per game.

Blount, a six-foot.six forward from Marianna, Fla., is averaging 15 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 45% from the field.

Mack, a six-foot-seven forward from Corpus Christi, Texas, is averaging 9.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 49% from the field.

Andy Sharpe, in his fifth season with the RedHawks, led Martin Methodist to the NAIA No. 6 ranking this year and his second consecutive TranSouth regular season championship.

The 2012 TranSouth Men's Basketball Championships begin on Thursday, March 2, 2012 with quarterfinals action taking place at the home site of the higher seeds. All games will tip at 7 p.m. local time.
