OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - Despite trailing Cumberland University by 13 strokes after day one of the 2005-06 TranSouth Men's Golf tournament, Union University charged back from third place to take the crown by a single shot margin.

The tournament was held at the General's Retreat Course at the Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tenn. The bent grass greens and bermuda grass fairway course plays to a par of 72 and is 6,773 yards long.

Cumberland opened the tournament with a first day team score of 302, holding an 11 shot advantage over Trevecca (313) and the 13 stroke edge over Union (315), but Union fired a blistering 298 on day two for a team total of 613, one better than that of Cumberland who shot a second day 312 for a total of 614. Trevecca finished third with a score of 637 (313-324), Martin Methodist College claimed the fourth spot by carding a team total of 638 (319-319), and Lyon College rounded out the field with a score of 695 (343-352).

Michael Shinn of Cumberland University was the individual medalist for the tournament, shooting a two day total of 144 (70-74). Trey Robertson of Cumberland shot 145 (71-74), William Boyd of Union carded 149 (76-73), Union's Matt Floyd notched 152 (78-74), Martin Methodist's Patrick Sutton shot 153 (77-76), and Union's Drew Cannon shot 155 (81-74) to make up the 2005-06 all TranSouth Tournament Team.
