COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 5 Martin Methodist College RedHawks won the Region XI Championship last night by upsetting host No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College 1-0. This is the RedHawks 2nd Region XI Championship in three years.

The Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders came out of the gate ready to jump on the RedHawks. The Blue Raiders had an 8-0 victory the night before where as the RedHawks had played a 1-0 double-over time match the night before. The RedHawks didn’t let the Blue Raiders get to them. They worked hard as a team and executed their plays well.

Lisa Mann scored the game winner for the RedHawks in the 54th minute of the match off a pass from Amanda Johansson. This was Lisa’s third game winning goal in a row. The RedHawks scored another goal four minutes later but it was disallowed due to a foul on the Blue Raiders goal keeper. Lindsey Wilson had a chance to tie the game with three minutes left and an open goal from four yards out but they shot over the bar and the RedHawks would hold on to the lead.

Martin Methodist’s mid-field and defense kept Lindsey Wilson’s offense to shooting from a distance. The Blue Raiders only had six total shots and only one shot on goal where the RedHawks had 14 total shots and 10 shots on goal. MMC’s goal keeper Sarah Prendergast had one save and LWC’s goal keeper Carrie Revlett had nine saves.

The RedHawks are on a 12 game winning streak with a 16-4 record as the head to the National Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. next week. The tournament pairing will be released on Thursday November 8. 2007. For complete information on the 2007 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Tournament please visit www.naiasoccer.org.
