NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The TranSouth Athletic Conference released the 2007 volleyball all-conference team and postseason awards today.
Freed-Hardeman took home three of the conference’s top awards and placed three on the First Team All-TranSouth Conference squad. The Lady Lions’ Karina Souza was selected as the TranSouth Conference Player of the Year, Freed-Hardeman’s Crissandra Perez was honored with the Newcomer of the Year award and Lady Lions’ Head Coach Todd Humphry was named TranSouth Conference Coach of the Year. Bethel College’s Jessica Vieira rounded out the conference awards with the honor of TranSouth Conference Freshman of the Year.
Souza, a 5’9” junior outside hitter from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, ranked No. 7 nationally in the NAIA with a .425 hitting percentage during the regular season. The junior earned 396 total kills (3.88 per game) and 359 digs (3.52 per game) for the TranSouth Conference Co-Champion Lady Lions.
Perez, 5’9” junior outside hitter/middle blocker from the Dominican Republic, led the Lady Lions in kills during the 2007 regular season with 410 (4.1 per game) and ranked second in the NAIA in hitting percentage (.456). She also earned 46 solo blocks, 62 assisted blocks and had 117 digs.
Humphry, in his seventh year as head coach of the Freed-Hardeman program, picked up his first TranSouth Conference Championship with a 16-2 league record and a 27-4 overall mark. Humphry’s Lady Lions opened the 2007 season with 16 consecutive wins, including 12 in conference play.
Vieira, a 5’11” outside hitter from Matozinhos, Brazil, led Bethel College with 322 kills (3.46 per game) in the balance of the 2007 regular season. The outside hitter also accounted for a 475 digs (5.11 per game) and 83 assisted blocks during her first year in the TranSouth Conference.
