NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - Josephine Owino of Union University and Renae Williams of Cumberland
University were named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Women's Basketball
Co-Players of the Week for the week ending November 11, 2007.
Owino,
a 6'4” junior center from Mombassa, Kenya, helped lead NAIA No. 1 Union
University to a perfect 2-0 record on the week against two ranked opponents. In
Union's 99-71 win over No. 21 Columbia College Owino led the team with 23
points, seven rebounds and had a block. Owino hit 8-of-11 from the field and
7-of-8 from the foul line. In Union's 100-77 win over No. 18 West Virginia Tech
Owino produced 25 points with 12 rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal and
was 11-for-18 from the field. For the week Owino hit 19-of-29 (66%) from the
field and 10-of-13 (77%) from the foul line.
Union
is now 3-0 on the season.
Williams,
a 5’11” senior forward from Oak Ridge, Tenn., helped lead NAIA No. 15 Cumberland
University to a perfect 2-0 record on the week. In Cumberland's 81-56 win over Milligan
College Williams led the team with 26 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and four
steals while hitting 10-of-16 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and
the foul line. In the Bulldog's 98-55 win over Williams produced another
double-double with 31 points, 18 rebounds, a block and two steals while hitting
11-of-19 from the field and 9-of-13 from the foul line. For the week she hit 21-of-35
(60%) from the field, 3-of-7 from three-point range, and 12-of-17 (71%) from
the foul line.
Cumberland
is now 4-0 on the young season.
