JACKSON, Tenn. – Shaun Cozart of Union University and P.J. Roper of Martin Methodist College have been named the TranSouth Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the week ending March 1.
Cozart, a 5-foot-11 first-baseman from Nashville, Tennessee, hit .667 on the week as he helped lead the Union Bulldogs to a 3-2 record for the week. Cozart posted 12 hits, five runs, four doubles, 10 RBI, and three walks. He recorded at least two hits and one RBI in all five games played on the week for Union. Union is now 6-2 on the season and 1-2 in the TranSouth.
Roper, a 6-foot-1 pitcher from Ardmore, Tennessee tossed a complete game shutout in his only appearance for the week. He allowed just three hits and recorded nine strikeouts in seven innings of work in a 2-0 win at Mid-Continent University (Ky.). His win completed a conference series sweep on the weekend. Martin Methodist is 12-7 on the season and 3-0 in the TranSouth.
