JACKSON, Tenn. – Zac Wallace of Lyon (Ark.) College and James Brasfield of Union (Tenn.) University have been named the TranSouth Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the week ending March 23.
 
The TranSouth also boasts five teams in the NAIA Region XI Top-6. Leading the poll is Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University, followed by Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in third, Lambuth (Tenn.) University fourth, Martin Methodist (Tenn.) fifth, and Lyon (Ark.) College sixth.


Wallace, a 5-foot-11 sophomore outfielder from Prairie Grove, Arkansas, recorded 13 hits in six games on the week. He posted at least one hit in each game as he helped his team to a 4-2 week, including a double-header split with NCAA DII West Florida, a victory over Spring Hill, and two wins over conference foe Martin Methodist. His best game was a 5-for-5 day with three runs and a double versus Spring Hill (Ala.) College. Wallace hit .565 with five runs, three doubles, two RBI and a walk. Lyon is now 19-9 overall and 4-4 in the TranSouth Standings.

 
Brasfield, a 5-foot-11 senior pitcher from Humboldt, Tennessee, helped Union to a 4-2 week with two complete game victories. He posted a complete game shutout in a win over then region No. 6 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College with five strikeouts, allowing just five hits. Brasfield then posted a complete game win over conference foe Cumberland in the rubber game of a three-game set. He allowed three runs and struckout seven batters. For the week, he posted a 2.08 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched. Union is 12-7 on the season and 4-4 in league play.
