JACKSON, Tenn. – Turner Barnes of Crichton (Tenn.) College and Javier Gomez of Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University have been named the TranSouth Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the week ending March 30.  Gomez was also named the NAIA Region XI Player of the Week.
 
The TranSouth also boasts four teams in the NAIA Region XI Top-6. Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University comes in at No. 2, Freed-Hardeman is No. 3, Union (Tenn.) University is No. 5, and Cumberland (Tenn.) University is No. 6 in the region rankings.
 

Barnes, a 6-foot senior catcher from Oxford, Mississippi, helped Crichton to a 3-0 week with a sweep of Mid-Continent (Ky.) University. He posted a .462 average with six hits in his 13 at bats. Barnes also posted two runs, two homeruns, and seven RBI, while slugging .923 in the three games. Crichton improved to 16-16 on the season and is tied for fourth place in the TranSouth with a 7-6 league record.

 
Gomez, a 6-foot-4 junior right-hander from Miami, Florida, earned a complete game win and a no-decision in his two appearances on the week. He tossed 7.0 innings in a win over Lyon College, allowing no earned runs, while striking out eight hitters. On the week, Gomez tossed 9.1 innings, allowing no earned runs and just two hits. He posted nine strikeouts and allowed just one walk. Gomez is 6-0 on the year helping Freed-Hardeman to a 22-8 overall record. The Lions are in second place in the TranSouth win an 8-3 record.
