REGION XI QUALIFICATION PLAN/POLICIES
The 2008 NAIA Region XI Baseball Tournament will be hosted by Cumberland University at Ernest L. Stockton Field on the Cumberland campus in Lebanon, Tenn.. from May 6-10, 2008. Six teams from the TranSouth Athletic Conference and Mid-South Conference are selected to participate by the following criteria.
- TranSouth regular season champion
- TranSouth regular season runner-up
- TranSouth conference tournament champion or highest finishing team other than the regular season champion or runner-up.
- The Mid-South regular season champion
- The Mid-South tournament champion. If the regular season and tournament champions are the same team the tournament runner-up will receive the automatic berth.
- If a tie exists between two or more conference teams for the regular season championship it shall be the responsibility of that conference to determine the champion.
- The remaining at-large berth will be awarded to the highest ranked team(s) in the region based on the last regional rankings prior to the region tournament.
To be eligible for one of these spots teams must have completed all reporting to the region chair by 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008. Any team not completing their required duties by that date will be deemed ineligible to receive an at-large berth. The Region XI Baseball sports chair (Beauford Sanders, Campbellsville University) will be responsible for checking accuracy.
The six teams will be seeded based on the last regional ranking prior to the tournament he highest ranked team will receive the #1 seed and so on through the #6 seed. If a non-ranked team qualifies for the region tournament they would take the lowest remaining seed.
Inclement Weather
1. If the tournament can't be played at all, the region tournament winner will be the highest ranked team in the most recent NAIA poll participating in the Region tournament. 2. If day one is started, but can't be completed and the tournament can't continue, then rule 1 still applies. Day one includes games 1, 2 and 3 of the NAIA 6 team tournament bracket. 3. If day one is completed, and the tournament can't resume, the winner will be the highest seeded team that is undefeated. (Games 1-2-3) 4. If day two is completed, and the tournament can't resume, the winner will be the highest seeded team that is undefeated. (Games 4-5-6)
5. If day three is completed, and the tournament does not resume, the tournament winner will be highest seeded team that is undefeated. (Games 7-8-9)
6. If five teams remain after game 6 and three teams after game 9, then the highest seeded team will be the winner. 7. If only one day is available to play the #1 seed and #2 seed will play one 9 inning game to determine the tournament champion. 8. If the tournament has to be played on limited days, then the tournament will become a single elimination tournament. The winner of game 1 will receive a bye on the second day while the winners of games 2 and 3 play each other. The winner of this game will play the winner of game 1 to determine the tournament champion.
