Carr, who will
begin his new duties in May of 2009, will continue to teach in the Trevecca
Department of Human Performance through the end of the 2008-2009 school year.
Trevecca will begin its search for a new men's soccer coach in January of 2009.
Now in his fifth year
as coach, Carr is the third coach in the history of Trevecca's men's soccer
program. His team this year had the program's second-best season in its
history, its third winning season ever. After starting the season 2-5-1, the
team went 5-1-1 with the only loss coming at No. 14 William Carey.
Carr became
the program's winningest coach following the October 3, 2008, game when the
Trojans defeated St. Catherine College 2-0; that victory gave him 24 career
wins. Carr now has 30 career wins. He guided this year's team to the TranSouth
Tournament Semifinals, a first in the program's history.
Carr says that his
leaving Trevecca is bittersweet: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my five years
on the hill at Trevecca. I look am thankful to former president Millard Reed, AD
Alan Smith, and Dean of Student Development Steve Harris for giving me the
opportunity to join the Trevecca family and to coach and teach at this special
place. I especially appreciate the close- knit family atmosphere here and the
relationships that I have with the coaches, faculty, students, and especially
my players. Trevecca will always have a fond place in my heart. Though this
decision was a difficult one, I feel that God has provided a great opportunity
for my family and me."
In his comments about Carr's resignation,
Trevecca president Dan Boone noted, "Trevecca is grateful for the investment
Coach Carr has made in the lives of our students. His leadership on the field,
in the classroom, and on the campus will be missed. He has embodied the mission
of Trevecca by empowering our students to make the leap into a God-honoring
future. I will miss his influence on the campus."
Brenda Patterson,
Trevecca's director of athletics, has appreciated Jeff's efforts to recruit
players who were a mission-fit for the university. She says, "Jeff did an
excellent job of developing the skills of his players on the field as well as
helping them mature as young men off the field.
We wish Jeff well as he begins this new chapter in his career."
