Jeremy Bishop
BATESVILLE, Ark. - Jeremy Bishop, the only head coach Lyon College's
men's soccer program has ever known, has announced his resignation.
Bishop is leaving Lyon to take an assistant women's coaching job at the
University of Central Arkansas, an NCAA Division I school in Conway,
Ark.
Bishop presided over the launch of Lyon College's men's soccer program
in 2002, and in seven seasons at the helm, has guided the Scots to a
54-64-6 record. Over the past five seasons, Bishop's teams have
compiled a mark of 43-42-6 and have finished with a losing record only
once. In Bishop's final year, Lyon finished with a 9-9-1 record and was
a TranSouth Conference tournament semifinalist.
"Lyon College will always be a very special place with me and my
family," said Bishop. "The experiences, lessons, and relationships I
have had through starting and building this program will stay with me
for a lifetime. I want to thank the administration of Lyon College
especially (former Lyon Athletic Director) Terry Garner and (current
Lyon A.D.) Coach Kirk Kelley for the support and direction they have
provided both this program and me, personally. I also want to thank the
tremendous coaching staff and support personnel I have had the pleasure
of working with over the years. Most of all I want to thank the current
and past players who have come through this program. They are the
reason this program is on a solid foundation and will do great things
in the future."
During Bishop's seven years as head coach, his teams produced 14
All-TranSouth Conference selections, 23 TranSouth Scholar Athletes and
four NAIA Academic All-Americans.
"Jeremy did a fantastic job with our soccer program and we owe him a
lot," said Kelley. "Our men's soccer program is coming off of a
phenomenal year and our program is on very solid feet because of the
work of Coach Bishop. He started our program from scratch, and in
essence, he is our soccer program. We will miss him, but I also
congratulate him and wish him the best."
According to Kelley, a search for Bishop's successor has entered the exploratory stages.
