DECATUR, Ala. - After the Martin Methodist College RedHawks defeated Bethel (Ind.) 1-0 yesterday, the RedHawks won their pool and advanced to the eight-team double-elimination bracket at the 2009 NAIA Softball National Championship. The tournament starts with 32 teams in pool play and is now just eight teams fighting for the 2009 title.
 
This is the first time in the history of the Martin Methodist College softball program has advanced out of pool play and into the elite eight double-elimination bracket at the NAIA National Tournament. They were 2-1 in pool play, falling on day one to the College of Idaho. The RedHawks regrouped and beat University of Virginia's College at Wise 1-0 on day two, and Bethel (Ind.) 1-0 on day three.
 
The RedHawks will be joined in the eight team tournament by Point Loma Nazarene University, Notre Dame College, Dickinson State University, Oklahoma City University, Lubbock Christian University, St. Gregory's University and will take on the Lancers from California Baptist at 11:00 in their first game of bracket play.
