MCU softball coach Christa Bakemeier
Mayfield, Ky. -- Mid-Continent University assistant softball and volleyball coach Christa Bakemeier has been promoted to head softball coach following the resignation of head coach Rocky Stinson. Stinson, who recently accepted the position of head softball coach at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, served as head coach for MCU for three seasons, posting a record of 42-120. MCU's 2009 team was 13-39 and finished fourth in the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Championships in May, 2009. Stinson also served MCU as Student Activities Director and was softball Mideast Regional Vice-Chair for the NCCAA.
Stinson also served as MCU's assistant baseball coach in 2006. He played third base for Mid-Continent for four seasons (2000-03) and was one of the Cougars' starting pitchers as a senior. He is the first four-year Cougar athlete to graduate from MCU. He is a 2003 graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and social science and completes his Master of Science degree in Human Development and Leadership at Murray State University in July, 2009.
MCU's new softball coach, Christa Bakemeier, daughter of Charlie and Doreen Bakemeier of Glendale, Arizona, is a May, 2008 graduate from Mid-Continent University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Studies. She returns to MCU in her first collegiate head coaching role after serving as assistant volleyball and assistant softball coach in 2008-09.
Bakemeier transferred to Mid-Continent in 2006, after two seasons as team captain for Glendale Community College (Ariz.), and pitched and played center field for Stinson for two seasons. She was MCU's team captain in 2007, and won NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors as well.
Upon her arrival in Mayfield, Bakemeier took little time adjusting to Mid-Continent, serving as student government Vice President in her first year, and later was voted commuter representative. As a senior in 2007-08, she served as one of MCU's resident assistants. Prior to her college career, Bakemeier played volleyball, basketball, and softball for Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona, and was voted team captain and Most Valuable Player of her softball squad and also won Scholar-Athlete honors.
