The Bethel Univ. softball team took part in Operation Christmas Child for the third consecutive year.
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (11.08.09) - The Bethel University Lady Wildcat softball team participated in "Operation Christmas Child" for their "Champions of Character" activity. This is the 3rd consecutive year that the Lady Wildcats, lead by head coach Larry Geraldi, has been involved with this project. This activity has also brought in other members of the Bethel community as Bethel's STEA contributed to this year's event.
"Operation Christmas Child "was adopted by Franklin Graham, President of Samaritans Purse, in 1993. Since then, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been delivered to hurting children in more than 135 countries. The shoe boxes bring the message of salvation, Christ's Love for all, and some needed items for the children. The shoe boxes also bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world. It provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple but hands-on project that has the power to transform children's lives. As each shoe box is delivered, it is treasured by the child that receives it, and is a lasting reminder that he or she is precious to God. A unique twist with this year's project is if a donation is made to "Operation Christmas Child" over the internet a bar code is issued. After delivery of the shoe box, details of where the box went and who received the box will be sent to the sponsoring person or group.
"We are so glad to be involved with this Christian endeavor to spread God's word and to offer some hope to those in despair," stated Bethel head coach Larry Geraldi. "We have a tremendous group of outstanding ladies in our softball program who are involved in so many activities. They excel in the classroom, on the field, on Bethel's campus, and are winners in life. The ladies use their own funds to sponsor the shoe boxes and I think they truly enjoy shopping to help these kids in need."
