NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Cumberland University's Brandon
Springer has been selected as the
NAIA Division 1 Men's Basketball National Player of the Week, one day after being tipped as the
TranSouth Athletic Conference Men's Basketball
Player of the Week. Both awards are for the week ending Sunday, January 24, 2010.
Springer has been selected as the conference player of the week three
times this season (January 10th,
December 6th).
Springer, a six-foot-five senior forward from Nashville, Tenn.,
recorded a double-double in each of the Bulldogs three games last week.
For the week he averaged 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game while leading the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record on the week, including a upset of No. 18 Union University. For the week he was 28-56 (50%) from the field and 15-17 (88%) from the foul line.
His best game was a 31-point and 11-rebound effort against Martin Methodist. He hit 13 of 19 (68.4 percent) from the field and all four free throws.
Springer
leads the country in scoring (24.0 ppg) and is seventh in rebounding (10.4
rpg).
