HENDERSON, Tenn. - As the 30th season of Freed-Hardeman University women's basketball program began in November 2009, only three players in program history had surpassed 2000 career points.

Now there are four.

Senior forward Jana Cross joined the elite group on Jan. 28, 2010, in a 73-66 win over Lyon (Ark.) College.

Cross, who needed 10 points entering the game to reach the milestone, made a layup with 11:29 to play gave her 2000 career points.  She added 10 more before the game ended to move past Kara Sanders into third place on Freed-Hardeman's career scoring list.  Only Qiana Elam (2782) and Ashlee Robertson (2080) rank ahead of her.

A three-time NAIA All-American and the 2009 WBCA/State Farm NAIA Player of the Year, Cross got there despite missing 13 games throughout her career, including 12 in her junior season.

The 5-foot-10 native of Loretto, Tenn., reached 1000 career points faster than any player in school history, getting there in 54 games when she surpassed the century mark on Feb. 7, 2008.

Cross's name is already etched in several places in the program's record books.  She currently ranks first in career field goal percentage (58.1), second in career free throws made (538), third in career field goals made (742), second in career scoring average (18.4) and seventh in career rebounds (804).

The Lady Lions are 17-4 on the season and are currently ranked No. 15 in NAIA Division I.
