PULASKI, Tenn. - Katlin White of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College and Kristi Kelley of Lyon (Ark.) College have been named TranSouth Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week respectively for the week ending February 21, 2010.
White, a 5-foot-7 freshman pitcher from Alabaster, Alabama had a 2-0 week for the RedHawks in the circle. She struck out 34 batters in 18.1 innings pitched averaging 11.3 strike-outs per game while only walking three for a 1.53 ERA. In her debut for Martin Methodist she sat down 15 of 21 batters faced and gave up only one run. The NAIA No. 8 RedHawks start out the season 4-2.
Kelley, a 5-foot-3 junior centerfielder from DeBerry, Texas was 7-for-13 at the plate including three extra base hits, two doubles and one homerun. She scored four runs and knocked in three RBI. On the base path Kelley was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases racking up three against Missouri Baptist University. She hit .538 on the week with a slugging percentage of .923. Lyon College was 2-2 last week and is 3-3 so far this season.
The NAIA will start selecting the National Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week beginning on March 16th and the first ranking of 2010 comes out on March 23rd.
