PULASKI, Tenn. - Anais Puertas of Trevecca Nazarene University has been
selected the TranSouth Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week
while Allison Blackwood Cumberland University has been named the
TranSouth Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 7,
2010.
Puertas, a 5-foot-8 junior, outfielder from Estado Carabobo, Venezuela
helped the Trojans to a 4-0 week with two wins over Bethel University
and two wins over Covenant College. She had six extra base hits
including three homeruns and three doubles.
Puertas recorded six RBI and had eight runs scored. Her average for the week was . 533 with a slugging percentage of 1.333. Trevecca is 10-0 this season.
Blackwood, a 5-foot-8 freshman pitcher from Leoma, Tennessee threw a no-hitter against NAIA No. 19 Notre Dame College March 5th. In just her third collegiate start for the Bulldogs she pitched seven innings striking out six. The un-ranked Bulldogs won 1-0 against the Falcons. Cumberland is 4-5 overall this season and on the mound Blackwood is 2-1 with a .90 ERA.
On Tuesday, March 16th the NAIA will begin selecting the weekly NAIA National Player and Pitcher of the Week honors. The first regular season NAIA Top 25 regular season ranking will be released on Tuesday, March 23rd.
