
JACKSON, Tenn. - Bethel (Tenn.) University's Craig Massey has been named the TranSouth Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 14, 2010. Bethel's Colby Fitzpatrick and Cumberland (Tenn.) University's Jerry Young were named Co-Pitchers of the Week for the same period.
Massey, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Bells, Tenn., helped lead the Wildcats of Bethel to a 5-1 week, including a win over No. 4 Southern Poly State University. On the week, Massey hit .545 with 12 hits in 22 at bats. He recorded 13 runs, one double, one triple, one home run and eight RBI. Massey also walked four times and was 2-for-2 in stolen bases. Massey recorded a least one hit and one run in five of the team's six games on the week. Bethel is 14-1-1 overall.
Fitzpatrick, a 6-foot-3 junior from Memphis, Tenn., posted a
1-0 record for the week. His win came at No. 4 Southern Poly State in a 10-2
victory for Bethel. He tossed five innings, allowing just one earned run on six
hits with three strikeouts. Southern Poly State was also the NAIA's No. 3
ranked teams in runs scored.
Young, a 6-foot-6 senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, was perfect
out of the bullpen for the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene as he helped his team
to a 3-2 record on the week. He recorded three saves on the week, with each
coming against a ranked team. The tossed three innings in a save over (RV)
Webber International (Fla.), allowing two hits and no runs with three
strikeouts. Then, in a pair of save opportunities at No. 7 Embry-Riddle (Fla.),
he pitched one perfect inning in each game. On the week, he allowed just two
hits in five innings. Trevecca Nazarene is 13-7 on the season.
