McKENZIE, Tenn. - Bethel University baseball player Johnathan Deberry was drafted in he 34th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball. The outfielder was drafted by the San Francisco Giants.
Deberry, a senior from Lexington, Tenn. hit .421 this past season
for the Wildcats. He had 64 hits including seven home runs. He was
second on the team with 64 runs batted in. He had 104 total bases.
Bethel Head Coach Rusty Thompson said, "We are excited for Johnathan.
No one deserves this anymore than he does with his work ethic and
ability." Thompson added, "We are thrilled as this is the second year in
a row one of our players has been drafted."
Jonathan Keck was selected last year by the Kansas City Royals.
Deberry is excited about the opportunity. "First I would like to thank God. Without him, none of this would be possible." Deberry said, "I am not sure yet where the Giants will send me. I would imagine it will be rookie ball. They will be in touch with me in the next few days."
