BATESVILLE, Ark. - Helena Yegros of Freed-Hardeman has been named the TranSouth Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Hanna Sparks of Cumberland University has been named the TranSouth Conference Women's Soccer Defender of the Week for the week ending Aug. 29, 2010.

Yegros, a five-foot-5 junior forward from Asuncion, Paraguay, scored a total of four goals in three matches to help the Lady Lions to a 2-0-1 record during the week. She scored twice and assisted on another goal in FHU's 5-0 win over Atlanta Christian College and followed with another two-goal performance in the Lady Lions' 2-2 tie with Pikeville (Ky.) College.

 

Sparks, a five-foot-4 junior keeper from Murfreesboro, Tenn., made 16 saves in two matches over the weekend, helping the Bulldogs to a 1-1-0 start. In a 2-1 triumph at Union College, the newcomer, who has not played soccer in almost three years, made five saves and allowed just one goal. She posted 11 saves in a 3-2 overtime defeat to the University of the Cumberlands, including one penalty kick.

 

The FHU Lions finished seventh last year and are picked to finish seventh again this year. The CU Bulldogs finished sixth last year and are picked to fifth this season.
