PICKWICK
DAM, Tenn. - The Union University won the 2010 TranSouth Athletic Conference Men's Golf Tournament
with a team total of 298-292-289=879. Union's Clay Mallard won was the Medalist for the event for the second time in his career. He also won the 2008 tournament. Mallard posted a tournament low 68-73-73=214, a two-under par performance.
Union will represent the TranSouth Conference at the 59th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships May 18 - 21 at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
The 56-hole TranSouth Championship was played at Pickwick Landing
State Park near Savannah, Tenn. The Pickwick Landing course played
to a par of 72 over 6,483 yards./ There were six teams and 30 golfers competing.
Cumberland University finished second
at 290-301-293=884. Trevecca was third with a 311-290-289=890. Bethel University (306-318-305=929), Martin
Methodist College (309-320-325=954), and Lyon College (348-335-336=1019) rounded out the rest of the finishing
order for the tournament.
Individually,
Trevecca's Joey Bradley (76-71-70=217) and David Saldana (77-71-69=217)
finished tied for second place overall, three shots behind medalist
Clay Mallard of Union (68-73-73=214). Sam Bass of Bethel was next with a 74-79-67=220 followed by Brett Barry of Union in fifth with a 75-72-74=221. Completing the All-Tournament team was a pair of Cumberland golfers in a tie for sixth. Dustin Thomas (73-75-74) and Austin Whitmere (71-75-76) finished at 222.
The Coach of the Year goes to Andy Rushing of Union University and the Freshman of the year is Brett Barry of Union University.
