2005 All-Conference Teams, Coach of the Year

Stipe Miocic and Todd Dunlap, both of Trevecca Nazarene University, swept the final week of the TranSouth Conference weekly honors. Miocic was named the conference's Player of the Week, while his teammate, Dunlap, was named the Pitcher of the Week. Both players had impressive weeks as they helped the Trojans to the TranSouth Tournament Championship.

Todd Dunlap, Trevecca Nazarene

Miocic, a 6-foot-4 senior from Willocwick, Ohio, hit .588 (10-17) with seven runs, two doubles, three homeruns, and nine RBI in the four games on the week. He recorded a 1.235 slugging percentage and also tallied an inside-the-park homerun.

On defense, Miocic went errorless for the entire tournament at third base.

Dunlap, a 6-foot-1 senior from Goodlettsville, Tennessee tossed a complete game in his win over No. 21 Lyon College in the second round. He allowed eight hits, while giving up just one run. Dunlap recorded six strikeouts and walked just two in is nine innings of work.

Bubba Norris, Trevecca Nazarene, a 6-foot-3 first baseman from Nashville, Tennessee, helped the Trojans to a 2-0 record this week. He posted a .714 (5-7) batting average with five runs, two doubles, two homeruns, and five RBI. Norris also recorded a 1.857 slugging percentage in the two games. His best game of the week came at the NCAA Div. II No. 9 ranked team, North Alabama. In that game, Norris went 4-for-5 with his two doubles, two homeruns, and four RBI. Trevecca Nazarene is 41-15 on the season.

Michael McGee, Trevecca Nazarene, a 5-foot-9 freshman from Nashville, Tennessee went 1-0 on the week with a win over Brescia University. In his only outing of the week, McGee tossed six innings in which he allowed no runs and a season low three hits. He tallied a season high eight strikeouts while walking just two batters.

Tyler Newman, Freed-Hardeman University, a 6-foot-1 freshman first baseman from Henderson, Tennessee helped the Lions to a 4-4 week. On the week, Newman hit .458 (11-24) with eight runs, five homeruns, and 17 RBI. He also tallied six walks in the eight games while posting a slugging percentage of 1.083. Newman recorded at least one hit in seven of the eight games played on the week. He hit a two-run game winning homerun to beat No. 23 Lyon College in game three of the weekend series. Newman's best game of the week was a 3-for-4 performance with five runs, three homeruns, and five RBI. Newman also picked up a pitching win on the week with a start and a relief appearance.

Todd Dunlap, Trevecca Nazarene University, a 6-foot-1 senior pitcher form Goodlettsville, Tennessee went 1-0 on the week as his nine-inning complete game win over No. 13 Cumberland clinched Trevecca Nazarene's first baseball conference championship since 1989. In that 7-2 win, Dunlap allowed just three hits and two runs, of which just one was earned. He tallied seven strikeouts and four walks.

Apr. 18

Kyle Jackson, Trevecca Nazarene University, a 6-foot-2 right fielder from Montgomery, Alabama, posted a .667 batting averaging on the week as he tallied 12 hits in his 18 at bats. He recorded at least two hits in each game and recorded a 1.056 slugging percentage on the week. Jackson tallied seven RBI, six runs, three doubles, two triples, two walks, and three stolen bases. Twice this week, he recorded a double and triple in the same game. Jackson's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning of game three versus Lyon sealed the series sweep for the Trojans.

Barrett Brown, Trevecca Nazarene University, a 6-foot-2 pitcher form Greenbrier, Tennessee, went 1-0 on the week with a 0.00 ERA. He tossed a complete game in the 3-1 win over No. 7 Lyon College, giving up just six hits and one unearned run. Brown tallied eight strikeouts and just three walks in the game.

Kyle Jackson, Trevecca Nazarene University, a 6-foot-1 right fielder from Montgomery, Alabama, helped Trevecca Nazarene to a perfect 3-0 week as they swept conference foe, Martin Methodist in a three games series to move in to a tie for first place in the conference. On the week, Jackson hit .538 (7-of-13) with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He also tallied a walk, stole two bases, and recorded a .692 slugging percentage.

Kirk Shoemate, Freed-Hardeman, a 5-foot-9 right hander from Hixson, Tennessee, helped Freed-Hardeman to a 3-3 week, including weekend series sweep of conference rival Union. On the week, Shoemate tallied a record of 1-1 with 2 saves. He appeared in five of the team's six games played on the week. He pitched 8.2 innings allowing just 1 run on eight total hits, four strikeouts, and two walks. His only run of the week came in his loss to NCAA Div. II Christian Brothers. In the weekend conference series versus Union, Shoemate recorded the win in Friday's game and then earned saves in both of Saturday's wins over Union.

Stipe Miocic, Trevecca Nazarene University, a 6-foot-4 third baseman from Willowick, Ohio, helped Trevecca Nazarene to a 3-1 week, including taking 2-of-3 games at Union in conference play. Trevecca Nazarene, ranked No. 18 in the NAIA, also recorded a 17-7 win over No. 16 Spalding (Ky.). On the week, Miocic hit .615 (8-13) with seven runs, four RBI, two doubles, and two homeruns. He also walked three times on the week and did not record a strikeout. He posted a 1.231 slugging percentage, and tallied exactly two hits in each of the four games. Trevecca Nazarene is currently 31-11 overall and 4-2 in TranSouth play.

Joe Miller, Freed-Hardeman University, a 5-foot-7 left hander from Hindsboro, Illinois, helped Freed-Hardeman to a 4-1 week. He appeared in two games on the week, however, earned his keep with a 2-1 win over the NAIA No. 1 ranked Cumberland Bulldogs. Miller allowed just three hits and one unearned run over his 5.2 innings pitched versus Cumberland. On the week, he pitched 7.0 innings with just three hits, one unearned run, two strikeouts, and two walks. He allowed just one extra base hit on the week. This season, Miller is 5-2 with a 1.59 ERA. Freed-Hardeman is 23-12 on the season and 3-3 in TranSouth play.

Mar. 21

Sam Cooke, Lyon College, a 6-foot-2 junior outfielder from Batesville, Arkansas, earned the TranSouth Player of the Week honor as he led the 9th ranked Lyon College Scots to a 4-1 record for the week, including taking two of three games at Union University in their conference opening weekend. On the week, Cooke hit .688 as he went 11-for-16 in the five games, while recording at least one hit in all five games. He tallied eight RBI, five runs, four doubles, and one walk. He posted a slugging percentage of .918. On the season, Cooke is hitting .452. Lyon on the year is 33-7 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Josh Hester, Freed-Hardeman, a 6-foot-3 right hander from Huntsville, Alabama, earned the TranSouth Pitcher of the Week honors with a complete game shutout performance at No. 17 Trevecca Nazarene University. In that game, Hester pitched 7.0 innings, allowing just five hits and no runs while striking out five batters and walking none. On the week, He went 1-0 with nine innings pitched over two appearances. He recorded eight strikeouts, no walks and allowed just six hits. On the season, Hester is 7-1 and has a 1.32 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched. Freed-Hardeman is 19-11 overall and 1-2 in TranSouth play.

Mar. 14

Brad Coon, Trevecca Nazarene University, a 6-foot-0 senior center fielder from Willowick, Ohio, hit .464 on the week as he tallied at least one hit in six of the seven games played on the week. He put up multi-hit performances in four of the games, including a four hit showing in a win over Brevard College. On the week, he hit .464 (13-of-28) with nine runs, one double, two homeruns, and nine RBI. He also tallied three walks and stole four bases in four attempts on the week. His slugging percentage was .714 during the seven games.

Dean Mitchell, Trevecca Nazarene University, a 6-foot-4 senior from Nashville, Tennessee, posted a 2-0 record for the week, while tossing 11.2 innings without giving up an earned run. Mitchell tossed a complete game in his victory over NCAA Div. II No. 30 University of South Carolina-Aiken. He allowed just one unearned run as he gave up five hits, tallied five strikeouts, and walked just one during his nine innings. In a relief effort in a win over North Greenville, He tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of one hit ball, striking out two batters and walking just one.

Mar. 7

Robert Matlock of Freed-Hardeman University, a 6-foot-1 sophomore first baseman from Jackson, Tennessee, helped Freed-Hardeman to a perfect 3-0 week. On the week, Matlock hit .625 (5-of-8) with seven RBI, three runs, one homerun, a walk, and one stolen base. His best game of the week was in the 12-0 win over Bluefield College as he went 3-for-3 with two runs, one homerun, a stolen base, and four RBI. Matlock is currently hitting .490 on the season.

Steve Kline of Cumberland University, a 6-foot-0 left hander from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, recorded a 2-0 record for the week including a complete game win over NAIA No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan and a victory shutout win over NCAA Div. II Alabama-Huntsville. In the 6-2 win over Tennessee Wesleyan, he allowed just six hits, two earned runs, and seven strikeouts in his nine innings. In the 12-0 win over Alabama-Huntsville, he recorded six strikeouts, allowed six hits, and no runs, in his five innings of work. On the week, Kline tallied 13 strikeouts and allowed just nine hits in his 14 innings pitched. He is now 5-1 on the season with a 0.75 ERA.
