TranSouth Sports Weekly Update
October 6, 2004

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Union University and Freed-Hardeman University were the only two teams in action this past weekend. Both competed in the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. Union posted a ninth place finish while Freed-Hardeman had no results for the men.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Like the men, only Freed-Hardeman and Union competed in meets this past weekend. Both ran in the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. Union posted at seventh place finish while Freed-Hardeman earned a 17th place finish.

MEN'S SOCCER - Martin Methodist College continues to lead the TranSouth standings with a 2-0 conference record. The RedHawks of Martin Methodist moved up three spots to No. 18 in the latest NAIA soccer Top 25 polls. Martin Methodist and Cumberland University are ranked No. 2 and No. 4 in the NAIA Region XI rankings. They remain the only TranSouth team in the NAIA rankings. Matthew Thorne, of Martin Methodist College, was named the TranSouth Player of the Week.

WOMEN'S SOCCER -The Martin Methodist College RedHawks find themselves a the No. 11 spot in the NAIA polls for the second straight week. Martin Methodist and Cumberland University are ranked No. 2 and No. 4 respectively in the NAIA Region XI standings. Alma Lara, of Trevecca Nazarene University, was named the TranSouth women's soccer Player of the Week.

VOLLEYBALL - Union University moved up three spots to No. 20 in the latest NAIA volleyball Top 25. Union and Freed Hardeman University are ranked No. 2 and No. 5 respectively in the NAIA Region XI rankings. Union's Gladys Wandera was named the TranSouth Conference and NAIA Region XI Player of the Week. Also for Union, Allison Shein was named the TranSouth Conference and NAIA Region XI Libero of the Week. Union's Nicole Garber was named the TranSouth Conference Setter of the Week.
