CROSS COUNTRY - The Union University
mens and womens cross country teams earned the
TranSouth Conference cross country conference championship last
Friday. This is the second straight title for the women and first
for the men. In both the mens and womens race, Lyons
team finished second and Freed-Hardeman fi nished third.
In the individual honors, Unions Janelle
Campbell and Phillip Thompson were named Runner of the Year for
their first place finishes. Also from Union, Candace Cross and
Thompson were named the Freshmen of the Year. Gary Johnson, also
of Union, was named the cross country Coach of the Year.
Members of the womens All-Conference team
were Janelle Campbell (UU), Ruth Schroeder (UU), Candace Cross
(UU), Jill Konkol (UU), Kate Graham (UU), Rachel Miesner (LYON),
and Rachal Cazalas (UU). Runners named to the mens
All-Conference team were Phillip Thompson (UU), Chris Winter (UU),
Douglas Martin (UU), Clint Channell (UU), John Fox (UU), Glenn
Ritter, (LYON), and Adam Pasters (CUMBERLAND).
The NAIA Region XI Meet is on Nov. 6 in
Louisville, Ky. followed by the NAIA National Meet on Nov. 20,
also in Louisville, Ky.

MEN'S SOCCER - Martin Methodist earned
the TranSouth Conference regular season championship by completing
a perfect 5-0 record in the league. The seedings for this weekends
conference tournament in Pulaski, Tenn. has Cumberland at No. 2
behind Martin Methodist, with Union coming in at No. 3 and Lyon
earning a No. 4 seed. On Friday at noon, Union will battle
Cumberland follow by Martin Methodist playing Lyon. The
championship game will be played on Saturday.
Martin Methodist is ranked No. 20 in the fi nal
NAIA Rankings and remain the only conference team listed. In the
final NAIA Region XI Rankings, Martin Methodist is No. 2 and
Cumberland is No. 4 with Union falling from the top 5 spots after
two straight weeks at No. 5.
Graeme Orr, of Martin Methodist College, was
named the conference Player of the Week.

WOMEN'S SOCCER -Martin Methodist fi
nished out the regular season with a perfect 4-0 conference record
to earn the Tran- South regular season title. In todays
TranSouth Conference Tournament championship game, it was the No.
1 seeded Martin Methodist defeating the No. 2 seed Cumberland
University 7-0 to earn the tournament championship. Hurumi Someya,
of Martin Methodist College, was named the conference Player of
the Week.
The RedHawks remain the only TranSouth team
ranked in the NAIA polls as they moved up to the No. 8 spot in
this the fi nal poll of the year. In the fi nal NAIA Region XI
Rankings, Martin Methodist remained No. 2 and Cumberland remained
No. 4.
In the postseason honors, Martin Methodist
swept the indiviual awards as Asuka Kabota was named the
conference Player of the Year, Amanda Johnson was named the
Freshman of the Year, and Garry Cleary was named the Coach of the
Year.

VOLLEYBALL - With all of the TranSouth
regular season matches being played, Union posted a perfect
conference record (10--0) to earn the 2004 regular season
championship. Freed-Hardeman fi nished runner-up with an 8-2 mark,
with their only two losses coming to Union.
Union (23-2) moved up one spot to No. 13 in
this weeks NAIA National Rankings. Also joining Union in the
national polls is Freed-Hardeman. The Lady Lions came in this week
receiving votes at No. 27. Freed-Hardeman has posted an overall
record of 24-2 on the season. The TranSouth has three of the top
fi ve teams in the NAIA Region XI Rankings with Union at No. 1,
Freed-Hardeman at No. 3, and Martin Methodist at No. 5.
Freed-Hardemans Cherri Kull was name the
NAIA National Setter of the Week, as well as, the NAIA Region XI
and TranSouth Conference Setter of the Week. Unions Gladys
Wandera was named NAIA Region XI and TranSouth Conference Player
of the Week, while Suzie Harper of Lyon College was named the
TranSouth Conference Libero of the Week.
BASKETBALL - TranSouth basketball is
underway with all team starting either last weekend or sometime
this week. Also, in both the mens and womens NAIA
preseason national rankings, the TranSouth Conference was very
well represented. In the womens rankings, Union is No. 4,
Freed- Hardeman is No. 6, and Trevecca Nazarene is No. 20. On the
mens side, Cumberland is No. 7 and Union is No. 16.
Freed-Hardeman and Martin Methodist received votes at No. 30 and
No. 33 respectively.
