LOUISVILLE, Ky. - November 20, 2004 - The Union
University Lady Bulldog volleyball team won the 2004 NAIA Region
XI Tournament on Saturday by defeated No. 10 Georgetown College
(Ky.) 3-2 (30-24, 18-30, 26-30, 34-32, 15-10).
This marked the second win of the season for
Union over Georgetown. Union, ranked No. 14 in the NAIA, defeated
Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) 3-0 (30-24, 30-25, 30-20) in the
semifinal match earlier in the day.
The region title for Union earns the Lady
Bulldogs an automatic bid to the NAIA National Volleyball
Tournament for the first time in Union volleyball history. Union
improves to 29-3 on the season.
Union’s volleyball coach Brian Dunn has
taken the Union softball team to the NAIA National Tournament on
five different occasions; however, this will be the first
appearance for Union volleyball.
This season for Union has been a great success
as Union has posted a 29-3 overall record. Union swept through the
TranSouth Conference regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark to
earn the regular season title. Union then won the TranSouth
Conference Tournament Championship with three straight wins. Now,
Union has done something that hasn’t been accomplished in the
seven-year history of Union volleyball. The Lady Bulldogs took
home the NAIA Region XI Tournament title as the No. 2 seed.
Georgetown was seeded No. 1 in the region.
The NAIA National Volleyball Tournament will
take place in San Diego, California on Wednesday, December 1
through Saturday, December 4.
