LEBANON, Tenn. - Woody Hunt, the head
coach of the Cumberland University baseball team, earned his
1,000th career win on Saturday, March 5 with a 3-1 victory over
the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Just last season, Hunt led
Cumberland to their first NAIA National Championship.
Coach Woody Hunt begins his 20th season as the
head coach of the Bulldogs and 23rd season overall. He served
three years as an assistant on the Bulldogs staff prior to taking
over the head coaching position.
During his tenure, Cumberland has earned 15
conference championships as members of the TCAC, MidSouth, and now
TranSouth Conference. He has won the past two TranSouth Conference
Tournament titles. Hunt has led Cumberland to seven NAIA Region
Championships, one NAIA Super Region Championship, and one NAIA
National Championship (2004). Hunt has been to the NAIA Baseball
World Series seven times, including last seasons title, one
second place finish, and two third place finishes.
He has also been a finalist for the National
Coach of the Year Award three times. Coach Hunt has also seen 36
of his former players sign professional baseball contracts.
Cumberland is currently 15-6 on the season and
is ranked No.1 in the NAIA Preseason Baseball Rankings.
