TSAC Baseball Championship Tournament: Day Two Summaries

JACKSON FIELD - Trevecca will play for the TranSouth Athletic Conference title at 11 a.m. on Friday. The team will play Cumberland, who will have to beat Trevecca in consecutive games. Trevecca will need just one win for the title.

#1 Trevecca Advances to Championship Day Undefeated Box Score
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - #1 seed Trevecca (44-15) advanced to the TranSouth Athletic Conference Championship Day with a 15-2 win over #5 seed Union University (29-27). It was the first loss of the tournament for Union, who will play in the 7 p.m. game at Shelby Park for a chance to play the Trojans again on Friday.

Luke Brown (7-1) went seven innings on the mound for Trevecca to pick up the win. Brown gave up two runs on three hits, three walks and struck out five. Ben Ayris started and took the loss for Union. Ayris (4-2) gave up six runs on eight hits, and a walk.

Stipe Miocic continues to have a hot bat. Miocic was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, a double and a home run. Brad Coon was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, a walk, a double, and a stolen base. The stolen base was Coon's 50th of the season. Coon already owns the school record for steals in a season and career. Kyle Jackson was 2-for-5 with a run scored, a double, and four RBI.

Trevecca scored 15 runs on 19 hits, two errors. Union scored two runs on three hits and were marked with six errors. Trevecca scored a run in the first, six in the second, five in the sixth, and three in the seventh. Union scored one in third and fourth innings.

With the 44 wins, Trevecca matches last year's team for the record for most wins in a season.

NAIA No. 8 Trevecca will play the winner of the 7 p.m. game between #2 Cumberland University and #5 Union University. That game will be played at Shelby Park near downtown Nashville.

#2 Cumberland Eliminates #4 Freed-Hardeman Box Score
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - #2 seed Cumberland University (47-17) advanced with a 6-2 win over #4 seed Freed-Hardeman (35-24). The win gives the Bulldogs a chance to play #5 seed Union University at 7 p.m. tonight. The winner advances to the championship game with Trevecca on Friday morning at 11 a.m.

Jared Brown (6-3) last eight innings for the Bulldogs to pick up the win. Brown allowed just two runs on six hits and four walks while striking out 13. Joe Miller (8-3) took the loss for the Lions. Miller gave up six runs, four earned runs on six hits, two walks and struck out six.

Cumberland scored six runs on seven hits and didn't have any errors. Freed-Hardeman score two runs on seven hits and had four errors. Cumberland scored three in the fourth and three in the sixth. Freed-Hardeman scored both runs in the sixth.

Vladimir Munoz led the Bulldog offensive attack with a 3-for-4 performance with a run scored and two RBI.

Cumberland Defeats Union Box Score
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Cumberland's Josh Underhill came out of the bullpen and pitched for the fourth time in three days. Underhill (8-1) picked up the win as Cumberland defeated Union 12-3 in the semifinals of the TranSouth Conference tournament Thursday night at Shelby Park.

Freshman starter James Parker gave way to Underhill with two outs in the fifth inning and the scored tied at 2-2. Underhill shut down the Bulldogs giving up one run.

Designated hitter Phillip Cuadrado was five-for-six with four runs batted in while catcher Chris Torres launched his 10th home run of the season. Cumberland produced 16 hits as a team as they improved to 48-17 on the season. Cumberland will face Trevecca on Friday at 11 a.m. in the tournament finals.

Trevecca and Cumberland will both advance to the Region XI tournament next week regardless of which team wins the TranSouth Tournament. The Region XI tournament will be played in Lebanon next week, to be hosted by the Wilson County Sports Counci at Veterans Field at Baird Park.
