JACKSON, Tenn. - May 19, 2005 - Brent Fronabarger, Union
Universitys assistant baseball coach for the past eight
seasons, has been named the new head coach for the Bulldog
baseball program. Fronabarger accepted the offer from university
president Dr. David Dockery and athletics director Dr. David
Blackstock after 17-year head coach, Andy Rushing, resigned his
position earlier this week.
Brent has been a disciplined leader and has done
an great job as our assistant baseball coach for the past eight
seasons, states Dr. Blackstock. I have no doubts that
our baseball program here at Union will continue to be an
outstanding program.
Dr. Dockery, Unions president says of
Fronabargers hiring, We are thrilled that Brent
Fronabarger has agreed to accept our invitation to serve as the
Head Baseball Coach at Union University. Coach Fronabarger has
served ably and capably as an assistant for a number of years.
Brent knows baseball and has great leadership potential. He is one
of several bright young head coaches now at Union University. The
future of the Union University athletic department has never
looked better.
Fronabarger, a native of Huntingdon, Tennessee, has just
finished his eighth season as assistant coach under Andy Rushing.
During those eight seasons, he was the pitching coach and was the
head of field maintenance for the numerous athletic fields on
Unions campus. Fronabarger was named the AFLAC Assistant
Coach of the Year in 2003 selected by Scholastic's Coach and
Athletic Director Magazine. He spent the 1996-97 season at
Huntingdon High School where he helped coach the Mustangs in both
football and baseball.
Im excited to be the head coach at the
place that I played and worked, stated Fronabarger. Its
a blessing to be able to take over a program that is in good shape
and has great facilities and support. Union is a special place
that attracts great kids because of the outstanding reputation
here. I look forward to the opportunity to continue the winning
tradition at Union.
Fronabarger, the 1995 Tennessee Collegiate Athletic Conference
Player of the Year, holds the school records for Most Victories in
a Season (13), Most Victories in a Career (33), Most Strikeouts in
a Career (306), and Most Innings in a Season (117.2). In 1995,
Fronabarger led the team with the lowest earned run average (1.97)
and had an incredible 11-2 record. Fronabarger was drafted out of
high school by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Brent received a Bachelor of Science in physical education and
health from Union in 1995 and received a Master of Education
degree from Union in 1998.
Fronabarger is married to the former Sandy Cothran, of
Hohenwald, Tennessee. Both he and Sandy attended Union University.
