Lyon College, founded in 1872, is the
oldest independent college in Arkansas operating under its
original charter. Lyon is a co-educational, residential,
four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Lyon is distinguished by a
nationally acclaimed faculty, committed to excellence in
teaching and scholarship; an honor system run entirely by
students; and extensive opportunities for international study
and faculty-student research. Lyon College, ranked among the
best national liberal arts colleges by U.S. News &
World Report, has often been recognized for its value and
the quality of its faculty.
Located in Batesville, Arkansas, Lyon
offers the natural beauty, safe climate, and outdoor
recreational opportunities of the Ozark foothills.
Lyon confers the Bachelor of Arts and
Bachelor of Sciences degrees, and offers majors in accounting,
art, biology, business administration, chemistry, computer
science, economics, English, environmental studies, history,
mathematics, music, political science, psychology, religion
and philosophy, Spanish, and theatre. Also offered are
professional concentrations in human resource management and
journalism as well as programs in early childhood/elementary,
middle school, and secondary education leading to teacher
certification.
Lyon graduates enjoy remarkable levels of
success, including acceptance rates into medical and law
schools of more than 90%. Close to 100% of Lyon's graduating
class is employed or in graduate or professional school within
six months of commencement. Nearly 90% of students reside on
campus.
All college facilities, including every
student room in the residence halls, are connected to the
campus computer network, which provides access to e-mail, the
