2005 All-Conference Teams, Coach of the Year

Karen Hargrove of Martin Methodist College and Hollie Shane of Trevecca Nazarene University have been named the TranSouth Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the week ending May 1.

Hargrove, a 5-foot-7 junior short stop from Franklin, Tenn. helped lead her RedHawks to a 2-0 week and a sweep of No. 10 Union University. For the week Hargrove was 3-for-7 with two runs, two home runs, a walk, a double, and seven RBI.

In game two vs. Union University, Hargrove hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the RedHawks the lead 6-5. Union tied the game with a run in the sixth and the game went to extra innings. Union scored one in the top of the ninth and set the stage for Hargrove's dramatic conclusion. With two outs and two on Hargrove stepped to the plate and hit a three-run game walk off homerun for the win.

On the season, Hargrove is hitting .389 with a school record 15 homeruns and 59 RBI.

Shane, a 5-foot-5 senior from Goodlettsville, Tenn. led Trevecca to a 2-0 week with two complete game wins over No. 26 Bresica University. Shane allowed just three earned runs over fourteen innings pitched and had 13 strike outs in the two games.

The wins came during a week in which Trevecca won its first-ever conference championship in softball.

Shane has set the school record for nearly every Trevecca pitching record. She now owns the record for wins in a season and career, career strike outs, innings pitched, complete games, and appearances.

Shane has a 28-3 record this season with a 1.93 ERA. Shane has pitched in all but three of Trevecca's 41 games this season and has 21 complete games in her 30 starts this season.

Lindsey Howard, Trevecca Nazarene, a five-foot six-inch senior from Nashville, Tenn., helped No. 15 Trevecca to a 4-2 week. Howard hit .571 (12-for-21) for the week with a triple, four doubles, two runs scored, 12 RBI, a walk, and a .857 slugging percentage.

Dara May, Martin Methodist, a five-foot ten-inch sophomore pitcher from Huntland, Tenn., helped lead the No. 20 RedHawks to a 5-1 record on the week with a .580 ERA over 12 innings pitched. May helped improve Martin Methodist to 38-10 on the year with a 9-0 five inning shutout of Cumberland University and allowed her only run of the week in a five inning 10-1 victory over Lindsey Wilson College. May also set the RedHawks single season strike out record with 99 on the season and improved her personal season record to 17-5 on the season. In her 12 innings pitched this week May allowed just seven hits, one run, three walks and struck out six.

Apr. 17

Holly Haycraft, Union University, a five-foot six-inch junior from Dyersburg, Tenn., helped No. 10 Union to a 5-1 week including three conference wins in four games, which put the Lady Bulldogs in first place in the league. In Union's three conference wins, Haycraft scored the winning run in the 2-0 win over Freed-Hardeman, the winning run in the 1-0 win over Martin Methodist, and the game tieing run in the 6-5 win over Martin Methodist. In the first game against Freed-Hardeman Haycraft was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two triples, and was successful on her only stolen base attempt. On the week Haycraft was 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. On the season, Haycraft is hitting .366 with 36 stolen bases.

Mary Kosco, Union University, a five-foot five-inch junior pitcher from Herrin, Illinois, helped lead the No. 10 Bulldogs to a 5-1 record on the week with a pair of complete game shutouts. Kosco helped propell Union into first place in the conference standings with her 2-0 record on the week. In her 14.0 innings pitched, she allowed just 6 hits and tallied 17 strikeouts. Kosco is 17-3 overall on the season and has a conference leading 0.59 ERA on the year. Her best performance was a seven inning-10 strikeout performance against Freed-Hardeman University. In that 2-0 victory Kosco allowed only two hits and three walks in the game.

Ashley Altman, Martin Methodist, a 5-foot-9 senior from Cleveland, Ala., helped lead the No. 19 RedHawks to a 6-0 week with 11 RBI and a .611 batting average. In two games against conference foe Cumberland University Altman was 4-for-7 with a run, double, two walks, and seven RBI. For the week Altman had three doubles, five walks, 11 RBI, a .696 on base percentage, and a .778 slugging percentage. Martin Methodist is now 31-5 (4-2 TranSouth) and is ranked No. 3 in this week's NAIA Region XI ranking.

Dara May, Martin Methodist, 5-foot-10 sophomore from Huntland, Tenn., helped lead the No. 19 RedHawks to a 6-0 week with a pair of wins and a save. May didn't allow a run in her 14.1 innings on the mound and allowed just nine hits, three walks, and struck out 16. May had two complete game shutouts and in her conference win over Cumberland University, she pitched a seven inning shutout with nine strike outs and allowed just six hits and two walks. May came into the second Spalding game and faced a bases loaded situation and earned a save. May is now 12-2 on the year. Martin Methodist is now 31-5 (4-2 TranSouth) and is ranked No. 3 in this week's NAIA Region XI ranking.

Mar. 28

Jessica Kee, Union University, a 5-foot-7 junior from Jackson, Tenn., helped No. 11 Union University to a perfect 4-0 week as she tallied a .667 batting average over the four games. Kee recorded seven RBI for the week, including at least one hit and one RBI in each game. In the Bulldogs two wins over an Olivet Nazarene team that is receiving votes for the Top 25, Kee produced four hits in seven at bats, scored a run, hit a triple and had four RBI. The third baseman also produced a .917 slugging percentage. Union is 24-5-1 on the year and is ranked No. 1 in the latest NAIA Region XI rankings and was ranked No. 11 in last week's NAIA Poll.

Hollie Shane, Trevecca Nazarene, a 5-foot-7 senior from Goodlettsville (Davidson Academy), Tenn., helped No. 25 Trevecca to a pair of wins over No. 15 Martin Methodist this week and kept Trevecca perfect on the season at 23-0. In game one Shane delivered her tenth complete game of the year in a 2-1 victory. In the second game Shane picked up her first save of the year by going the final 4.2 innings in a 4-1 victory. On the week Shane pitched 11.2 innings and allowed just seven hits, one run, and five walks while striking out two against the RedHawks. Shane set the Trevecca record for career innings pitched this week. Trevecca's 23 wins is a school record for most wins to start a season and the most consecutive victories in a season.

Mar. 21

Jessica Kee of Union University, a five-foot seven-inch junior third baseman from Jackson, Tenn., helped lead No. 12 Union to perfect 6-0 week. Key hit .519 (9-17) on the week with 15 RBI, three doubles, and two homeruns, one of which was a grand slam. She had a slugging percentage of 1.059 and an on base percentage of .556. At the third base position, she committed just one error in her 15 chances. Kee's best game was a 2-for-4 performance in Union's 6-4 win over NCAA Division II Christian Brothers University. Kee scored a run and drove in five with a home run and a double. Union is ranked No. 12 in the preseason softball poll and have a 20-5-1 record this season.

Laura Redmon of Trevecca Nazarene University, a five-foot eight-inch sophomore short stop from Franklin, Tenn. (Christ Presbyterian), helped lead Trevecca to a perfect 6-0 week. Redmon hit .588 (10-17) on the week with 14 RBI, a double, three home runs, scored five runs and was successful on all four of her stolen base attempts. Redmon had a 1.176 slugging percentage for the week. In the Trevecca's first game at Spalding Redmon was 2-for-4 with six RBI, two homers and scored two runs. Trevecca has started the season with a 21-0 record and are now 2-0 in TranSouth play. The 21 wins to start the season is a school record for wins to start the season and for consecutive wins.

Mary Kosco of Union University, a five-foot five-inch junior from Herrin, Ill., helped Union to a perfect 6-0 week as the tallied a 3-0 record on the mound. On the week, she tossed 14.0 innings of scoreless softball while striking out 22 of the 50 batters she faced. Opponents hit just .044 off Kosco this week as the three teams managed just two hits off of Kosco for the week. Her best game was a four-inning complete game no-hitter against Christian Brothers. In the 9-0 win over Christian Brothers Kosco had nine strikeouts and allowed just one walk. Union is ranked No. 12 in the preseason softball poll and have a 20-5-1 record this season.

Mar. 14

Ashley McCool of Trevecca, a 5-foot 4 sophomore outfielder from Nashville, Tenn., batted .645 on the week with 20 hits, five doubles, and three homeruns. McCool is hitting .540 on the year with eight doubles and four home runs. She has scored 15 runs and driven in 23 runs with a .940 slugging percentage. McCool was the TranSouth Newcomer of the Year and was selected to the All-TranSouth First Team and NAIA All-Region XI as a freshman at Trevecca last season.

Hollie Shane of Trevecca, a 5-foot 7 pitcher from Goodlettsville, Tenn., helped lead Trevecca to a 9-0 record in the Tucson Invitational this week. On the week, Shane appeared in seven games with a 6-0 record, five complete games, and a shutout. On the year Shane has an 11-0 record with a 2.22 ERA with eight complete games in 10 starts. Shane's 11-0 start has continued to put her name in the Trevecca record book. This season Shane has added career wins (49-25), career winning percentage (49-25, 66.2%), and career appearances (94) to her record breaking career. Shane has already assured her of becoming the first Trojan pitcher to have a winning career record. Prior to the season Shane had already claimed the career strikeouts record (262) and the career record for complete games (54). Records on the horizon: Shane is on pace to become the first pitcher to have a career earned run average under 2.00, and is just 22 inning short of surpassing Wendy Allen for the record for most career innings pitched.

Mar. 7

Ashley Altman of Martin Methodist, a five-foot ten-inch senior from Cleveland, Tenn., was 5-for-7 (.714) from the plate on the week. The third basemen hit a home run in the RedHawks two wins for the week. Altman also had a run scored in each game and a total of five RBI for the week. Altman was 4-for-4 in the 8-0 win over Briarcliffe with three RBI; and 1-for-3 in the 13-2 win over Ursuline with two RBI.

Mary Kosco of Union University, a five-foot five-inch junior from Herrin, Ill. was 3-0 for the week with a 0.64 ERA. Kosco pitched 22 innings with 24 striketouts and allowed only eight hits, four walks and two runs scored. In Union's 11-0 win at Lambuth, Kosco allowed just four hits and didn't walk any batters while striking out six Eagles in her complete game shutout.
